International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)Vacancy Announcement Position: Research Project Coordinator - Rangeland Health Key Responsibilities:• Coordinate the ‘rangeland health’ component of a large-scale, ‘One Health’ research and development project, focused on improving the health of people, livestock, and the land;• Coordinate implementation pastoral community land management according to demonstrated and documented approaches, in multiple sites in 3 countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia);• Train partners and communities in implementing rangeland management, including participatory monitoring of rangeland condition;• Supervise collection and management of primary field data and secondary data pertaining to pastoral community land management, including both social and biophysical data;• Analyze data to document rangeland restoration successes and challenges;• Work closely with development partners (especially government), and pastoral communities to maintain relationships and forge effective multi-stakeholder collaboration;• Contribute to resource mobilization, including proposal development;• Oversee project logistics related to fieldworks and other activities as relevant;• Communication of research results to partners, including pastoral communities.- Duty Station: Addis Ababa, EthiopiaJob Grade: HG16- Monthly Base Salary: Birr 50,801 (Negotiable depending on salary history of the candidate).- Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is for one year with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding. Education
• A PhD in Agriculture, Rural Development or related field, or a similar master’s degree with exceptional relevant work experience.

Skills:
• Excellent skills in statistical analysis;
• Proficiency in appropriate digital technologies;
• Excellent management and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to operate independently, with strong critical decision-making skills;
• Pro-active and detailed-oriented personality, who can operate as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience:
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience for PhD holders, or 9 years of relevant experience for master’s holders.

Required:
• Demonstrated experience in conducting research on land management with pastoralists;
• Extensive knowledge on community rangeland management through participatory methods;
• Experience in supervising collection of field data through surveys and/or technical measurements;
• Sufficient experience with supervision and coordination of field activities to oversee work in several sites in 3 countries (Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia) simultaneously;
• Experience in facilitating, communicating with, and managing partners — especially government agents and members of pastoral communities;
• Excellent communication skills both orally and written in English and Amharic (Somali and/or Afaan Oromo desirable);
• Willingness to travel and work in difficult field conditions as necessary.
Preferred:
• Direct experience with ‘One Health’ approaches - which seek to improve the health of people, livestock, and the land, through integrated actions;
• Experience in implementing community rangeland management with herding communities, or managing development projects or programs that include community rangeland management approaches;
• Experience in conducting monitoring of rangeland condition in response to community management through field data, participatory methods, and remote sensing;
• Experience in conducting research on gender dynamics in pastoral communities;
