International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)Vacancy AnnouncementPosition: Senior Gender ExpertJob Purpose• The Senior Gender Expert will drive and lead the project’s effort to advance gender equality throughout the project. S/he will lead the development and implementation of the project’s approach to gender. The gender team will collaborate, advise, and support project team, especially Impact Assessment and Monitoring & Evaluation, to expand internal capacity to design, implement gender sensitive projects and achieve project targets. She/he will be a member of icipe Ethiopia office which is located at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia).Main Responsibilities• Leads the development and implementation of the project’s approach to gender throughout its implementation.• Participates in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating research activities that include and promote gender equality as well as social inclusion and local community empowerment.• Leads the project’s gender team, including mentorship, coaching and performance management.• Advises and collaborate with the Impact Assessment and Monitoring and Evaluation, Communication and Business and Market System teams to integrate gender across the project cycle, and to advance the project’s overall gender target.• Drives the design and implementation of gender training programs for all staffs as well as support the capacity of partners on gender.• Develops tools that support gender analysis and gender sensitive project implementation.• Identifies and contributes to relevant learning networks and communities of practice. Educational Requirements
Master's
Desired Skills
Education:
• Masters’ degree or PhD degree in social sciences, including international development, public health, gender/women’s studies or other relevant disciplines.
• In depth knowledge in a technical or specialized field

Experience:
• MSc with nine years of progressive responsibility in development sector with proven track record of integrating gender equality outcomes in projects.
• PhD with two years of progressive responsibility in development sector with proven track record of integrating gender equality outcomes in projects.
• Substantial experience working with youth and women in humanitarian or international development, ideally with a focus on economic empowerment.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing gender analysis, design tools and trainings. Experience building capabilities in high-growth organizations.
• Knowledge of current issues regarding gender issues in agricultural and rural development.
• Familiarity with different stages of project cycle (design, implementation, supervision, monitoring and evaluation, reporting).

Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to develop and manage multiple partnerships.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate to a variety of audiences across cultures, locations and levels of the organization.
• Strong English language skills, both written and spoken.
• Excellent interpersonal and listening skills and ability to collaborate with various teams within and outside the project
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel)
