Danish Refugee Council (DRC)Vacancy AnnouncementPosition: Protection Monitoring SpecialistLocation: Addis AbabaDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Participate in coordination fora at the national and regional levels as requested by the Protection Manager.• Lead and oversee the technical design and implementation of all protection monitoring activities in Ethiopia and Djibouti in compliance with global protection principles and best practices, and DRC Standard operating procedures.• Lead in the design and contextualization of all protection monitoring strategies, methodologies, standard operation procedures and tools, ensuring technical rigor and consistent application.• Promote improved understanding of protection issues among DRC staff and relevant stakeholders to support the observance of international protection and humanitarian law standards. To achieve this, and in line with DRC’s anticipated protection activities to be implemented over the course of 2020, the Protection Specialist will play a key role in developing and facilitating trainings and mentoring DRC’s protection monitoring teams.• Ensure that ethical and statistically-sound data collection and protection-related information management systems are in place and used for analysis, planning, evaluation, and advocacy.• Lead technical components of protection needs assessments, including developing appropriate tools to inform program design as well as to identify risks and vulnerabilities, including those related to gender, age and diversity. • Contribute to the strategic direction of Ethiopia’s protection programming through active and ongoing participation in and contribution to strategic planning meetings and development of strategic documents.• Ensure the timely and quality delivery of all protection monitoring-related reports and staff contributions to organizational monitoring and evaluation requirements to ensure project quality, relevance and accountability to DRC's beneficiary populations.• Collaborate with the Area Managers and the Addis Ababa-based Protection Manager to ensure field-based protection monitoring records and documentation are properly managed and compliant with DRC requirements and best practices.• Support staff to integrate protection concerns and awareness in other sectors.• Support recruitment processes for DRC’s protection monitoring teams, and ensure that relevant staffing structures are in place and are reflective of appropriate gender balance.• Promote professional development by identifying training and capacity building opportunities and ensure protection staff are well versed in core protection concepts, DRC's code of conduct, accountability, respectful dialogue with the refugee population, and prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse.How to Apply• Interested candidates who meet the required qualifications and experience are invited to submit updated CV and cover letter explaining their motivation and why they are suited for the post.• We only accept applications sent via our online-application form on www.drc.ngo under Vacancies.• Please note that we receive applications up to May 17, 2020.For general information about the Danish Refugee Council, please consult www.drc.ngo
